Abstract :
The introduction of electrical detectors into spectroscopy affects the design of spectrometers for use with them, and this is discussed. Infra-red techniques are considered in some detail, since many of them are also employed in the other regions. Typical electrical methods of emission and absorption spectroscopy in the visible and ultra-violet regions are described, and mention is made of a new type of photoconductive cell for this part of the spectrum. The scanning of Raman spectra is of particular interest, in view of the faintness of the signals. Brief reference is made to spectroscopy in the vacuum ultra-violet region.
