Abstract
The UK electricity supply industry is going through a phase of great upheaval following the privatisation by the government. The need to devise a modern and effective national energy policy has been all but forgotten and the UK is lagging far behind its European neighbours in energy matters. The author describes aspects of successful European policies and looks at why the present structure of Britain´s energy utilities makes it nearly impossible for the UK to make full use of its resources and to achieve similar success
