Abstract
An analytical model to calculate stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) effects in a wavelength division multiplexed transmission system is presented. The analytical solution is valid for any input power distribution and fully accounts for the gain saturation effects. It is found that the spectral distortion introduced by SRS is always linear on a decibel/nanometre scale and depends solely on the total input power, not on the input power distribution
