Abstract :
A method for modelling irrational transfer functions associated with distributed parameter systems by rational transfer functions based on the Hermite orthogonal polynomials is presented. The mathematical procedures required are conceptually and computationally simple. The procedure is applied to one example, where it is desired to approximate a given distributed plant.
