Abstract :
The Year 2000 computing problem is the greatest crisis to hit the IT industry. The inability of most computers to calculate correctly the year 2000 as a result of historic two-digit date programming has given rise to massive implications for business and society. This article describes the background of the problem and advocates the need for detailed modelling to be undertaken so that companies and organisations may come to terms with the seriousness of the implications and tackle the problem with greater fervency.
