Abstract :
The preliminary design of a next generation particle detector for the future linear collider foresees a magnetic field of 5 T at the interaction point. The magnet is a solenoid with a 6 m aperture and a length of 6.2 m and surrounded by an iron yoke. Operating current and stored energy are 18 kA and 2.3 GJ respectively. The peak magnetic field in the magnet windings is 5.8 T, a new record for this type of detector solenoids.
