Abstract :
For the first time, the 2-D circular PEC cylinder coated with a uniform layer of lossy dielectric is numerically investigated. The complex propagation constants of the first three creeping wave modes are calculated for the case of a coating thickness increase from 0 to d/λ0=0.5. The dependence of the constants on the dielectric losses is studied and the `critical losses´ effect is observed for the higher order modes. It consists of leaky modes transition to trapped modes for a definite value of dielectric constant ε
