Abstract :
ARQ schemes are investigated to increase the system capacity in an IS-95 type DS-CDMA system, basically to support two kinds of services: a typical voice and a data user. The authors compare the number of voice and data users for different kinds of Hamming codes in a multicell environment. The results show that the optimum Hamming code for maximising the data user capacity under IS-95 type environments is the (255, 247) code, which increases the data user capacity so that it is almost twice the capacity when not using an ARQ scheme
