Abstract
The standard of performance of a complete television transmission system is considered and definite limits of distortion of amplitude and phase, with respect to frequency, noise and linearity, are suggested. Five instruments, a video-frequency oscillator, a video-frequency amplifier detector, a test pulse generator, a waveform monitor and group delay measuring equipment devised to measure these distortions, are then described. The accuracy of performance is given and some of the uses to which they have been put are described. A brief suggestion as to possible lines of development in the future concludes the paper.
