Abstract :
It has long been accepted that the addition of a lag controller to a linear, closed-loop system will reduce the steady-state error without appreciably affecting the transient response. Using a theoretical analysis supported by examples, the paper demonstrates that this is not the case. In fact, the settling time and the percentage overshoot will be affected significantly whenever a lag controller is used, for any system with desired settling time in the normal range
