Abstract :
Code design criteria for trellis-coded continuous phase modulation (TC-CPM) on Rician and Rayleigh fading channels are derived. Using these criteria, a design procedure is presented. Upper bound and simulation results show the efficiency of the code design procedure presented. For instance, it is shown that the trellis-coded 8-ary CPFSK system has a gain of 5 dB at the bit error probability 2×10-3 compared to the uncoded system with the same throughput
