Abstract
The meaning of operational support for telephone network management is explained, and interoperability among operational support systems (IOSS) is discussed, focusing on the problems that must be solved to achieve interoperability. The use of data networks and relational databases to support network operations is examined. Applications of IOSS are discussed to illustrate how the integration of OSSs, distribution databases, and data gateways can aid in the transport and management of current and new provisioning functions.<>
