Abstract :
The December 2012 Special Issue of the IEEE/OSA Journal of Lightwave Technology focuses on the topic of "From 100 G to Terabit Optical Networking: Trends of Ultra-High Speed Communications." Recently, in order to meet the requirements for large capacity and high bit rate, many novel enabling technologies have been developed by research groups, including the single carrier polarization multiplexing QPSK, which has been employed in 100 G current commercial product, multicarrier optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing, multi-core or multi-mode spatial multiplexing, and the coherent detection method based on digital signal processing. This Special Issue includes both comprehensive review articles and original technical contributions covering the rapid advances and broad scope of these technologies. 13 invited papers and 14 contributed papers will be published in this issue, and the authors come from service providers, telecommunications equipment manufacturers as well as top universities and research institutes in this area.
