Abstract :
A compact lumped loading cylindrical conformal directional monopole antenna with 68 mm diameter and 185 mm height has been designed to serve in a directional borehole radar system. The antenna is employed for radiating Gaussian monocycle pulse with peak-peak width of 1.5 ns. The parameters of the antenna are with about 5:1 front-to-back ratio in the amplitude scale and ±90° directivity patterns at H-plane at half-peak amplitude. The experimental results are in good agreement with the simulation results provided by the commercial software (CST MWS). This observation indicates that the proposed antenna is a good candidate for the directional borehole radar application.
