Abstract :
Side writing effects of a thin film wraparound (WA) head which records a parenthesis shaped (“[”) transition were investigated. The 60 degree inclination of the low sensitivity for an MR reading head due to azimuth loss. The side writing width of the WA head was 0.05 μm for a recording density range from 12.5 kfci to 50 kfci. The side writing width of the conventional head, however, changes from 0.62 μm in 12.5 kfci to 0.29 μm in 50 kfci. The WA head is capable of self-writing embedded servo. Maximum data zone width for a disk drive with a density of 10 kTPI, having positioning accuracy of 0.3 μm, is 0.5 μm with the WA head compared to 0.37 μm with the conventional head
