Abstract
This paper presents a combined differential evolution/multiple gradient summation approach for reducing harmonic distortion with active power line conditioners (APLCs). The purpose of this approach is to minimize the total injection currents of APLC´s while satisfying harmonic standards and practical constraints such as the individual harmonic voltage distortion, total harmonic voltage distortion limits, and the commercially available discrete sizes of the APLCS. The proposed approach was tested on an 18-bus radial distribution system. Results obtained show that the proposed approach can effectively solve the APLC installation problem
