Abstract
The Augmented Williams-Comstock model, which provides for the determination of the transition parameter as a function of write current, is extended to determine the final values of transition parameter and location versus write current amplitude after the written transition leaves the head field. The analysis includes a comparison with the Williams-Comstock model. The results show that the Augmented Model predicts a minimum final transition parameter approximately 20% less than that given by Williams-Comstock at the optimum value for the write current. The final transition is located closer to the gap center than when created during the write process. It is also shown that cases can exist for which the final transition parameter is less than that created during writing
