Abstract
This paper describes a program which adds components to an electrical circuit so as to meet a specified target performance. The circuit grows by the apparently random addition of new components. Examples are given of its application to generating equivalent circuits for components used in microwave integrated circuits and to the design of wideband microwave transistor amplifiers. Amplifier circuits with very good theoretical performance have been produced from the simplest of starting circuits. Although both the examples are for microwave circuit applications, there is nothing intrinsically microwave oriented about the program, which could be used to generate circuits for operation at any frequency
