Abstract :
In a recent paper (see Proc. Inst. Radio Eng., vol.32, p.419, 1944). it was demonstrated that a noise figure below the so-called "quantum limit" is possible using single-sideband (SSB) modulation. In this comment we discuss the interpretation of this result and its implications for optical communications systems.
