Abstract
The paper discusses the various problems that arise in supplying railway single-phase loads from the British Grid system, including unbalanced effects, fluctuations and harmonics. The importance of a high short-circuit level for connecting the railway supply transformers is demonstrated. Details are given of the equipment provided at the points of supply and of the methods of controlling and protecting it.
