Abstract :
A method developed to measure the degradation of neutron detectors in neutron and gamma fields has been applied to five models of boron trifluoride (BF3) detectors from major suppliers, and to a special helium (3He) detector model. The detectors tested all have about the same nominal neutron sensitivity and overall dimensions. The showed widely different neutron and gamma durability for BF3 models, an undesirable time-dependent gamma degradation followed by recovery for some BF3, models, and very robust performance of the modified 3He detector
