Abstract :
A novel 77 GHz MMIC self-oscillating mixer for wireless systems has been designed and used in optoelectronic up-converting applications. The mixer uses a single pseudomorphic high-electron mobility transistor (pHEMT) to achieve photodetection, oscillation, doubling and mixing. A 100 MHz RF signal (modulated onto an 850 nm laser) is photodetected by the pHEMT and is mixed to W-band using the second harmonic of the self-oscillation at 38 GHz. A conversion gain (from electrical baseband to electrical carrier) of 3.6 dB has been achieved
