Abstract :
A brief review is given of magnetic oxides of the principal structure types, and of the chemical techniques used in their synthesis. Fields are indicated in which further chemical and crystal-structure investigations are needed. Recent work at Imperial College (on spinel solid-solutions, gamma ferric oxide, cadmium ferrite, lead ferrites, and strontium `ferrate¿) is summarized, and the preparation of small single crystals of nickel and nickel¿zinc ferrites is described.
