Abstract :
A set of coupled-mode equations for helical fibres is formulated. These equations are then used to analyse the helical single-mode fibres with intrinsic linear birefringence. The eigenmodes and the resultant birefringence of the whole waveguides are obtained. The effect of the external perturbation on these waveguides is also considered
