Abstract
A philosophical view is given of artificial intelligence. The article examines: the behaviorist model; symbolic AI; intelligence and evolution; and cognition. It is concluded that the common framework for AI will have to come from brain architecture. Abstracting relevant principles remains extremely difficult until we really understand the interplay between the sensing level and the highest levels of cognition.
