Abstract :
Computer algebra packages clearly have implications for the teaching of mathematics within universities. The article considers how existing teaching patterns can best be adapted to exploit the potential of the new technology, describing the Open University´s response to this challenge. It is regarded as sensible to teach methods, and to leave the drudgery of calculation to the computer algebra package
