Abstract :
The paper reviews the application of optical principles and techniques at microwave frequencies. A brief discussion of radiation and diffraction in the far and near fields is first given. This is followed by an account of the various types of artificial dielectric. Methods for reducing and enhancing surface reflectivity are examined, and several instruments and components, which are especially useful at millimetre wavelengths, are considered. The survey concludes with a bibliography.
