Abstract
The design of a transistorized television waveform pattern generator is described, which produces the waveforms necessary for controlling picture generating equipment, plus a composite video grid pattern signal. The generator was designed to conform with the B.B.C. waveform specifications for television waveform generators. Binary counting circuits with feedback loops are used to count down from the master oscillator frequency to line and frame frequencies. The duration and relative timings of the line synchronizing pulses and line blanking pulses are determined by a delay line. The generator can be locked to the mains frequency or allowed to run free. The circuits have been designed to accept transistor parameter variations within the manufactured tolerances without necessitating circuit component changes, and to have good temperature stability. The generator uses 86 p-n-p germanium junction alloy transistors and 73 germanium point-contact diodes. But for one symmetrical transistor, all the transistors are standard entertainment types.
