  • Abstract
    Tapered couplers have been fabricated in GaAs/GaAlAs single-mode rib waveguides. A new etching technique has been used to fabricate transitions of 1 μm over lengths of approximately 160 to 300 μm. Losses for the TE and TM fundamental modes have been measured at a wavelength of 1.3 μm
