Abstract :
Work at United Glass has shown that relatively simple systems can be utilised to electrically heat the glass in the forehearths. Electric heating is an improvement on gas heating principally because heat is put directly into the body of the glass. This improves the effectiveness of the heating process and leads to a more consistent temperature control. In addition, energy savings result from using electric heating. The author describes the process of electric heating, its benefits and problems
