Abstract :
High-output temperature-stable delay lines with relatively short delays up to 200 ¿s for use with transistorized coding and decoding devices are described. The delay lines used nickel and nickel-iron alloy tubes as the delaying media, and the input and output transducers are simple mouldings whose positions are continuously adjustable. With a pulse width of 1 ¿s a minimum delay of 1.5 ¿s has been achieved. With multiple-tapped lines, delay between adjacent taps has been reduced to less than 1 ¿s The design and construction of the transducers and the manufacture and properties of the delay-tube media are discussed. A particular delay line described has a total delay of 25 ¿s with 8 output taps and has been designed for use in airborne equipment: over the temperature range ¿10° C to +55° C its delay changes by less than 0.05 ¿s
