  • Abstract
A US Air Force perspective is given of the Integrated Communication Navigation Identification Avionics (ICNIA) program, a dual-service technology-development and laboratory demonstration effort aimed at reducing the volume and weight requirements for CNI avionics in the 1990s. A brief history of integrated avionics is followed by a description of ICNIA configurations under development. The major problems encountered by customers of CNI avionics are discussed. Applications and payoffs of the technology used are outlined. The role of ICNIA in the US Air Force reliability and maintainability program is examined. ICNIA software and fault tolerance and ICNIA logistics support are considered.<>
