Abstract :
Writing this column, I have just returned from beautiful Madeira Island, where our Intelligent Transportation Systems Conference took place this year. The picture shows our society president, Alberto Broggi, and myself at the conference site. It was delighting to see how such conferences bridge different cultures and foster interaction and networking. Academia discuss with industry, practitioners meet theoreticians, traffic system research exchanges news with component research. Such conferences prove as an ideal ground to expand the own horizon.
