Abstract :
Two series expansion methods to calculate modal properties of nonlinear planar dielectric waveguides are presented. Both methods are based on a tangent-type variable transformation of spatial coordinates: one uses Fourier exponentials and the other Chebyshev polynomials. It is shown that these methods can give very accurate results for a broad range of frequency and nonlinearity values
