Guest editor´s introduction

This is the first of two special issues on human factors in computer graphics. It was initially intended to be one issue. However, due to the very large response to the call for papers (14 were submitted) and the high quality of the submissions (seven were accepted for publication), the decision was made to extend the contributions over two issues. The December issue of IEEE CG&A will contain the remainder of the articles.
