Abstract :
The dependence of the 10-Gb/s/ch long-distance transmission performance on the signal pulse duty factor is studied by numerical calculations and experiments. We find that duty factors /spl les/0.5 are suitable in both single channel and wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM) transmission systems given typical dispersion allocation configurations. The suppression of cross-phase-modulation-induced waveform distortion by optimizing the duty factor is significant as increasing the number of channels in WDM transmission systems.
