Abstract
Measurements of absorption coefficients have been made for radiation produced in a wire-cylinder discharge in oxygen at pressures between 1 torr and 50 torr. The radiation passed through a system of grids before reaching an aluminium-alloy detecting electrode. The resulting photoelectric current was measured as a function of the distance from the source of radiation. Between 10 torr and 50 torr, two components of radiation were observed with absorption-coefficient/pressure ratio, ¿/p, equal to 0.03cm¿1torr¿1 and 0.01cm¿1torr¿1. Below 10 torr, ¿/p increased with decreasing pressure, as observed by other workers.
