Abstract
This article introduces software modem technology and the requirements it places upon CPUs. It also shows how the Advanced RISC Machines (ARM) RISC architecture is ideally suited to exploit the advantages of software modems. It also provides performance figures that illustrate the potential advantages to systems designers of an ARM-based software modem implementation
