Abstract
The paper discusses the influence of high-level languages on the form of instructions, codes, the representation of data and the storage structure of new computer designs. In particular, some of the similarities of and differences between the Burroughs B6500 and the new Manchester University design are discussed. It is concluded that these machines will significantly speed the throughput of programs written in high-level languages, e.g. ALGOL, FORTRAN etc.
