Abstract :
The paper describes a method for determining the input reactance of a cylindrical dipole by analytic continuation of the Poynting-vector integration into the `invisible¿ part of the radiation pattern. The theoretical basis for this method, which was described recently for planar aerials, is extended to cylindrical radiating systems. The reactance of a thin dipole is evaluated for a range of dipole sizes, and the results are compared with those obtained by the well known induced-e.m.f. method.
