Abstract :
The modern practice of administering paralysing drugs to relax muscles while maintaining shallower depths of anaesthesia has led to the possibility of patients being fully aware of surgery without being able to communicate this awareness to anaesthetists. A form of spectral analysis of an electroencephalogram meets some of the criteria for an ideal index of anaesthetic depth
