Computer-program description. Design of air-cored solenoids

A computer program enabling the design of a multiturn air-cored solenoid to be obtained is decribed for two commonly used methods of solenoid construction. The results enable the method of construction and the optimum dimensions to be evaluated in terms of the power required for a given field strength, the volume of the solenoid and hence the material cost. The same procedure may be utilised to evaluate the parameters of other methods of solenoid construction from their corresponding geometry factors.
