Abstract :
A simplified analysis of noise in concatenated limiting (2R) optoelectronic repeaters is conducted. Thermal noise causes jitter and amplitude noise after the limiter. Their impact on the BER is treated separately and finally compared. It is found that a larger electrical bandwidth improves the performance because of reduced jitter up to a point where the increased noise bandwidth makes the amplitude noise dominate
