Abstract :
The authors report on a photonic integrated circuit including a DFB laser and two electroabsorption modulators separated by an optical amplifier, for short optical pulse generation and coding. The monolithic integration is very simple, based on the use of the same active layer for the four optical functions. Pulse generation and coding is demonstrated at 10 Gbit/s, while the PIC is compatible with 20 Gbit/s operation
