Abstract
Since the communication of a signal in digital form will inevitably involve an increase in the bandwidth demanded, single-sideband techniques are particularly desirable as a means to bandwidth economy. The two major problems, inevitable distortion in generation and the requirement for an exact carrier replica at the receiver, are discussed and solutions are suggested. Trials of the solutions prove that s.s.b. modulation may be considered a viable technique for the communication of digits.
