  • Abstract
    This paper addresses the current status of network management specification development by the ATM Forum Network Management Subworking Group, using existing standards from the ITU-T and IETF and updating those standards or assisting in the creation of new ones. The work uses a three-step specification process to define network management interfaces, introducing the concept of a protocol-independent management information base (MIB) and recognizing that networks of the future will have interfaces supported by various protocols.
