Abstract :
This paper presents a formulation for the optimal design of power distribution systems taking cold load pickup into consideration. The optimization problem is applied to an actual distribution feeder and the solution is obtained using a genetic algorithm. Being concerned about voltage drop and overloading problems, transformer load in time during cold load pickup is determined and a power flow is run for the maximum sustained part of the load. Corrective actions are suggested
