Abstract :
Results of theoretical and experimental work carried out on a flat, 2-sided, linear induction motor, taking into account edge effects, are reported. The magnetic fields in the machine are found by solving the partial differential equation for the magnetic vector potential subject to certain boundary conditions. Special attention is paid to the fields at the entry and exit edges. A method for the experimental determination and recording of the fields in the various regions of the machine is presented. The fields obtained experimentally are compared with the analytical results, which show a fairly good correlation. Experiments are also carried out to determine the force/velocity characteristics of the machine.
