Abstract :
In wireless ad hoc networks, most of the medium access control (MAC) protocols are based on carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) mechanism and the request-to-send/clear-to-send (RTS/CTS) dialogue is needed for reducing collisions. Many of these MAC protocols are presented to avoid the hidden-terminal and exposed-terminal problems while seldom considering transmission power. Recently, power control in wireless/wired networks has been the focus of extensive research for reducing total energy consumption, increasing network throughput and improving wireless channel/s spatial reuse. The authors integrate the previous works and present a novel MAC scheme supporting real-time traffic for increasing the efficiency of channel utilisation with dynamic power control in wireless ad hoc networks. In conclusion, the authors give the performance analysis and simulation validating the scheme.
