Abstract :
The Central Electricity Generating Board is applying automatic control to some of the main functions of the Grid control centres and the generating stations. To facilitate part of this work a power-system analogue has been constructed. This is basically a 50c/s a.c. network with a unique simulation of generators and loads. A generator is simulated by a variable-frequency voltage behind a fixed reactance, and governor simulation is included, so that load excess or deficit will cause a change in system frequency. A load is represented by a voltage behind a resistance, the in-phase and quadrature components being separately varied to control the active and reactive power absorbed.
